How To Reach Zero Point

Zero Point is more than just a destination; it’s a journey into the lap of nature’s grandeur. Every moment spent on this trek, whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a solitude seeker, becomes a testament to the splendor of Sikkim’s wilderness.

Nestled amidst the enchanting Himalayas, Zero Point in Sikkim, also known as Katao, is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Here, frosted landscapes and an air of serenity await those willing to brave the high altitude.

Reaching the Roof of the World: Routes and Travel Modes

Reaching Zero Point requires a multi-step journey, with Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, serving as the starting point.

Gangtok to Lachung (85 km, 4-5 hours):

This leg is best covered by a hired taxi or cab. The scenic drive winds through picturesque villages and offers glimpses of the snow-capped peaks. Shared cabs are a budget-friendly option, but be prepared for longer travel times.

Lachung to Yumthang Valley (30 km, 1 hour):

Another scenic ride awaits, with options similar to the previous leg. Yumthang Valley, known as the Valley of Flowers, is a beautiful detour you won’t want to miss.

Yumthang Valley to Zero Point (34 km, 1.5 hours):

This is where the journey gets exciting. The road to Zero Point is unpaved and prone to closures due to weather conditions. Here are your options:

Shared Taxis: These ply the route only if weather permits and can be crowded.

Hired Jeeps: The most comfortable and reliable option, especially for a group. Negotiate the fare beforehand, considering the return trip as well.
